Restart Early Years Pay Talks: €13.65 is not enough

Next Monday is decision time for the Federation of Early Childhood Providers and Childcare Services Ireland(IBEC).

Will they vote in favour of €13.65 per hour as a new minimum rate for Early Years Educators?

Or will they get back around the table and negotiate a fair deal?

SIPTU’s demand is clear. The Federation and IBEC must do the right thing and restart pay talks.

PROPOSED PAY IS NOT ENOUGH

This Monday at 2.00 p.m., SIPTU and the employer groups will be voting on the following rates of pay:

  • Early Years Educator / SAC Practitioner - Proposed Hourly Rate of Pay - €13.65

  • Lead Educator / Room Leader - Proposed Hourly Rate of Pay - €14.70

  • Graduate Lead Educator - Proposed Hourly Rate of Pay - €16.28

  • Deputy / Assistant Manager - Proposed Hourly Rate of Pay - €16.49

  • Manager - Proposed Hourly Rate of Pay - €17.33

  • Graduate Manager - Proposed Hourly Rate of Pay - €18.11

SIPTU IS VOTING NO!

The proposed rates of pay fail to recognise or reward Early Years Professionals and will only intensify the staffing crisis.

Early Years Professionals, and the many providers who pay over these rates deserve better.

EMPLOYERS MUST RESTART PAY TALKS

SIPTU is calling on the employer groups, the Federation of Early Childhood Providers and Childcare Services Ireland to restart pay talks.

In Budget 2022, the Department of Children allocated €207 million to childcare providers to support our first pay deal. The cost of implementing last years pay deal was a small proportion of the money provided to employers.

The money is there, it’s time for the Federation and IBEC get back about the table and hammer out a deal that recognises and values staff.
